Brooklyn Bohach
Brooklyn Bohach is an artist, educator and creative professional whose practice is always evolving. With over 20 years of professional arts training, Brooklyn has ties to many creative arts communities in music, dance, theatre, writing, visual arts and fibrecraft as both a practitioner and collaborator.
A graduate of The University of Toronto’s Bachelor of Music in Performance program (Honours) with a double major in Environmental Science, Brooklyn’s interdisciplinary approach to arts education is informed by both their formal, independent and community studies. Brooklyn has classical piano training from the Royal Conservatory of Music and classical dance training from Alberta Ballet and Canada’s National Ballet School with additional training from Wendy Wright and Nancy Kilgour.
As a child, Brooklyn’s creative interests were developed as a student of the Calgary Waldorf School, where play and musical improvisation and composition were encouraged through singing, playing music, speech, and movement. Brooklyn has worked and volunteered with many organizations at the intersection of arts, science, and youth-focused public art programs across Canada such as Park Canada, Waterlution, and the Empathy Squad.
Brooklyn has always been immersed in the world of music. Her mother, Tamara Terry, is a pianist who ran her own home music studio. After she retired, Brooklyn took over her studio, building it to 25 weekly students in Calgary, Alberta. Brooklyn has continued to teach throughout the years, teaching dance classes at The Wright Studio in Calgary, Alberta and voice, piano, songwriting, musical composition, improvisation, theory and audition prep at Kitchen Music Studios in Toronto, Ontario.
Brooklyn continues to support the arts community as a professional grant writer and project developer, working with artists such as Jennarie, Kensington Market Jazz Festival, Lilia Biali, The Canadian National Ballet School and Vince Maccarone’s Los Variants. Brooklyn continues to perform in many musical genres such as jazz, R&B, improvised, classical and folk, as well as teach privately in Kjipuktuk, Halifax, Nova Scotia
